X-RAY ANALYSIS Deviation [mm]
“HIGH-TECH FOR YOUR
LUBRICOOLANT NOZZLE
QUALITY INSPECTION!”
Our expertise lies in non-destructive 2D X-ray inspection and 3D computer tomography using high-
resolution X-ray technology.
The development of digital X-ray detectors and the increase in performance of digital computers have led over the
past two decades to the production of affordable industrial X-ray computed tomography that provides a three-
dimensional, true-to-scale image of the components. Some image resolutions are possible on the micrometre scale.
The dimensional accuracy in tomograms (see diagram) is some micrometres per 100 mm.
Thanks to the possibility of capturing the object to be examined completely three-dimensionally and with the highest
resolution and of creating virtually arbitrary sections through its interior, industrial computer tomography opens up
completely new analysis possibilities to monitor the quality of 3D-printed nozzle components. Differences in material
composition or density can be easily visualised and analysed in three dimensions. This allows precise statements to be
made about the position of pores, cracks or inclusions, without destroying the object under analysis.
Furthermore, high-resolution computer tomography also enables 3D measurement of components which, due to their
complex structure, cannot otherwise be examined non-destructively using conventional coordinate measurement
machines. Besides 2D wall thickness measurements, CT volume data, for example, can be compared with CAD data
in order to offer quick and simple analysis of the entire component in terms of dimensional compliance – with a
measurement accuracy of a few micrometres.
The Grindaix team cooperates very closely in this field with GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies GmbH in Stuttgart.
